Heartaches and Headbeats

And it's about that time again
When everything begins to settle in
Thoughts progress and everything rewinds
Waiting for a moment's lapse in time

These words are meaningless
A tool used to calm my head
Because my heart's beating too fast to take it
I write to block the noise downstairs
Just as a bat flies out of the attic

I woke up and realized that
Earth fell from the sky and on to my floor
And the stars throughout the night turned from green to white
As these waves in my eyes crashed ashore

These words are meaningless
A tool used to calm my head
Because my heart's beating too fast to take it
I write to block the noise downstairs
Just as a bat flies out of the attic

When did it become okay again
To feel a shot of pain?
Bright pink skin
Bright, broken in
The needle slips in its choice of vein

Rhyme without reason
I haven't been meaning to
But meaning is less than what you always expect
And it's hard to always find meaning in everything

Yet you always want to know
What pries your little heart from keeping itself content
In doing its simple tasks
Of sharing blood and pumping love
Keeping you in control

These words are meaningless
A tool used to calm my head
Because my heart's beating too fast to take it
I write to block the noise downstairs
Just as a bat flies out of the attic

I wish there were treatments for everything tangible
To the unimaginable
And everything in between
But as I stare at the ceiling before I fall asleep
I can't help but wish some things were only a dream
