Spread Out

Lately I've been feeling like these days are running laps through my veins
If I cut myself wide open maybe I'd stop to feel the pains
Of letting go of what used to be

We used to be a common thread, a sewn collection of stories
Now I'm stitching up my head from cracking open my memories
Of what used to be our family

And I understand some things in life, they change
But I did not plan to see this love that fades

Now we're spread out from each other like pirates and servants of kings
Set to sail these chosen courses that are shaping our destinies
Now our lives are open seas

We're treading water but we're losing with all of the words that we say
Half the time they don't get heard, they end up crashing beneath the waves
These open seas are drowning you and me
Our lungs are begging us to breathe

I understand some things in life, they change
I did not plan to see this love that fades
We try to hear each other's pain
But with ears plugged with pride, we're stuck in our ways
