The Dory

I still have the Dory, my uncle built for me
In a child's imagination, I would sail it to the sea
Though the mast is now broken, and the sails badly stained
The love he put in it, still remains

Sail away, sail away, sail away
In a dream I... sail away
With every plank that was laid
Takes me closer to that place
Sail away, sail away, sail away

James sailed his Dory, off the coast of Newfoundland
A self reliant fisherman, he could build anything with his hands
When the cod all were taken, he sailed a cab through city streets
But he never lost his dreams, of the sea

In a chair by the harbor, an old man looks to the sea
His body has failed him, so he clings to his memories
When I think about my uncle, and what he passed on to me...
I remember why I kept that old Dory

Sail away, sail away, sail away
Sail away
