Icarus

Icarus flew too close to the sun
The rays on his back made him feel like an angel
He closed his eyes and flew with the stars
He enjoyed it while he was there

Do we know if he knew it or not?
That he was falling as the wax dripped off his back
Maybe he knew it was inevitable
That he would not survive the fall

His name paired with rebellion and mistakes
Yet his worst moment was when he was happiest
He flew high in the sky, it was all he was dreaming about
He knew he had to come down
He just didn't know how

Do we know if he knew it or not?
That he was falling as the wax dripped off his back
Maybe he knew it was inevitable
That he would not survive the fall

He would not survive the fall
Tumbling down, this fallen angel never screamed a word
He opened his eyes to take once last
look at the globe he saw beneath him
And for a second
The whole world was beneath him

Do we know if he knew it or not?
That he was falling as the wax dripped off his back
Maybe he knew it was inevitable
That he would not survive the fall
He would not survive the fall
He would not survive the fall
