A little introduction to
Where I come from, where I was born, where I was raised

1986
I was born, my momma raised the kid
And my grandma always used to baby sit
My daddy left, can't recall the day he split
I grew up to Rock tunes
Like Queen and The Rolling Stones or whatever got thru
To me thru my friends, their fathers and my uncle
Were the only men I looked up to
Elementary school was so cool for us
Me and my friends played soccer but we barely used a ball
We made matches with juice cartons
My favorites in soccer were Oka Nikolov and Jay Jay Okocha
A friend sold me a Frankfurt pendant representing their team
That's the first chain I was rockin
In my hometown back then you would barely walk into
A brown skinned dude
I had some Middle Eastern friends
But the first black guys I ever saw
Were Jay Jay and Denzel Washington

This is my country
It's not the 1930's that's just not funny
I ain't sayin it's all good but please stop frontin
I was raised here and I live here
Drive to the lake, speed in the 5th gear
I get paid here, sip on some great bear with my same peers and my kin here

Over my bed
I had hundreds of posters of actors and some of German Rock bands
Some soccer players but they had to make room for NBA players like Kobe and like Shaq
Vince Carter I should mention
On TV I saw Eminem and
My friend played Dre, they really caught my attention
I got on my Stan shit
Dyin my hair blond like Em as if I wasn't blond enough
I was 13, my grandma passed that year I remember how they let the coffin down
That was around the time I started to write and record a song
Which I took out of existence cause I could tell I was missin
The vocab to express what I'm feelin
I started to distance myself from my culture and
I translated every word in the songs I played
Then I heard of Nas, Tupac and L and I forgot I didn't have a father then

This is my country
It's not the 1930's that's just not funny
I ain't sayin it's all good but please stop frontin
I was raised here and I live here
Drive to the lake, speed in the 5th gear
I get paid here, sip on some great bear with my same peers and my kin here

Sausage with some mustard on
My plate, not too big on Sauerkraut
I'm from Fritzlar, still don't know if it's a village or a town
I used to hate it, now I love to come back to visit for a while
To my people overseas - we do have horses
Hitler ain't the chancellor, we do have houses
Except for the homeless who can't pay the high rents
Collecting empty bottles
To get a deposit
We do have welfare, except for people who didn't get granted asylum
With no choice but to work illegally
With low pay or on the streets you see
It's a similar story over here
Either do well in school or come up with good ideas
To provide for what your family needs
Still I'm thankful for growin up here
And for my friends and family who won't disappear
Who hold me down or should I say held me up and showed me love here

This is my country
It's not the 1930's that's just not funny
I ain't sayin it's all good but please stop frontin
I was raised here and I live here
Drive to the lake, speed in the 5th gear
I get paid here, sip on some great bear with my same peers and my kin here
