Colder Days

A poem for colder days;
The days where my mind wanders to the curve of your face as you listen to the accelerated pace of my heart and the rain thrums music on the rooftop
The days where we stay laid up
And nothing exists outside the 4 corners of this room-
Those are the days I live for
When no one expects anything
And the rain washes away the tiredness we associate with life

A poem for colder days;
The days where life demands a response
And I'm too unbothered to give it one
The days where I watch droplets on the car window race forward like super snails
Where a slide tackle on a dodgy pitch feels like League material

A poem for colder days;

Days in the corner of Freetown where we feel Goderich
Dancing in the rain as if the compound were a ballroom

And losing slippers because water does nothing but rush down these badly made roads

A poem for colder days
Because they hold too many memories to be ugly to me

Simply a poet
