Hero's Journey

If I was singing and you were the one who would hear
I'd tell you my story of failing to conquer my fears
I'd ring this old bell and I'd hope that you'd understand
That the reason I'm bleeding's the same one there's blood on your hands

But though I'm still reeling, my heart's still true
I'll carry the weight that I'm due
There were times I felt like giving up it's true
But there's so much a smile can do

So I stopped and I thought about nothing and breathing as one
And I floated right into the great yellow ball of the sun
But if three chords and words that I wrote can do nothing for you
Well at least I tried, now I know what my dreaming can do

But I want you to know that I hope for the best in the end
And if nothing else matters I still count you as a friend
But if it seems carving flesh into stone is what we must do
Let us break through the ashes and find our way back to the new

So I floated on waves in a sea of mine own design
And I let go of all sense of place, self, meaning, and time
And the skeleton man in the clouds smiled at me from above
He said do what you want boy, but make sure you're living with love

So someday with music and laughter I shall return
With no inner struggle, around me I'll watch the past burn
And I'll dance around that fire until you reach out your hand
I know it's far off, but our eyes will be smiling again
