Waiting for Letters

Tear yourself away
It doesn't hurt that much
It's only a half-hour
You can't receive texts
Have another beer
Try and do some work
Distract yourself from longing
Planning when you'll see him next

When I think of the past
I wonder how they waited for letters

I've had a few
One night stands
Where I've often wanted more
But now I want that far more
Than I ever did before

How to bridge the distance?
How to keep in touch?
When your logic is insistent
That to him it won't mean much
Young men move on quickly
Hormones I suppose
While those a little older
Hesitate, and struggle to let go

In the past they used the post
But we've got instant messaging
If it hurts this much now
I wonder how
They waited for letters
