We Know

I've seen a hurricane turn the sea to a roiling boiling foam
I've walked alone in distant places far away from my home and
I've seen the mountains crumble tumble change the way that they lay
I've seen a river break its banks and wash a town away

Oh, I've waited with baited breath as a wave destroyed a coast
I've heard the voices of my mother's ever present ghost and
I've seen a volcano ruthlessly cover up the land
But I've never seen an evil thing besides what's in the heart of man
What's in the heart of man?

I've seen a woman headless at the hands of her own family
The sickness within claimed that she had sinned by rejecting religious tyranny
And I have seen the forest taken for the trees
As indigenous beings, lives destroyed are falling to their wounded knees,
We're falling to our wounded knees

Who will save our souls, if we won't save our own?
Through these ebbs and flows, if nobody knows then nobody knows...

Yet I have had compassionate acts such as shirts off of backs in the kindness of strangers
And I have heard stories of men who protected their families when faced with imminent dangers
And I have seen mothers love overcome all for the sake of her baby
And I have felt a man pick up the pieces of my broken heart for me
He mended my wounded heart for me

And I have seen the forest, planted tree by tree
And I have seen the beaches cleaned and sailed the sparkling sea
And I have climbed the mountain top, singing songs of praise
And the heavens resounded and love astounded on the darkest of my
Darkest of my days, the darkest of my darkest of my days

Who will save our souls, if we won't save our own?
Through these ebbs and flows, if nobody knows then nobody knows...

But I know
You know
We know
