Understanding Love

I'm writing a song about love
I mean, what else do you write songs about

There's so much I've learned about love
In my cumulative three months of dating
I'm an expert I know
I've compiled it into a song
In hopes that writing it down
Would help me better understand
This overly-complex whirlwind of emotions

One thing that I know
Is that I learned nothing
The only takeaway I've gotten
Is that it really fucking hurts when it leaves

The first person who I told I loved
Broke up with me two days later
I guess that's just what I get
For wanting some warmth in my life

I want the sun
To revitalize me
I want its heat
To envelop me
This oppressive cold
Has gotten old

Another thing that I've learned
Is that it makes no sense at all
I can't even begin to describe
My ignorance of what the hell love is

I mean what force makes you kill
Your significant other, writhing in anguish
Or the force that rips you to shreds
When you weren't ready to say goodbye

I've felt the sun
It revitalized me
Ooh
Ooh
Its heat enveloped me
I'm free
