The Old Man and His Guitar

He wakes, cold stone greets him
Like so many days before
He reaches for his only comfort
The strings of his guitar

He listens as he tunes
To the sound of the street
And the echoes of the life
He once knew

The people pass by
As they step all around him
He looks up with a sad smile
And says "oígas mí canción"

The music starts out slowly
And people stop to hear
A story of love and loss
Of all that he held dear

His only love now then gone
The children have all grown
Forgotten, the old man falls
Down

And through all his troubles
His guitar at his side
The music of his heart
His only guide

In the crowd stands a lady
Hears the sorrow of his heart
She, too, is forgotten
Broken and apart

The sound of his song
Speaks to her soul
Compassion wells within her
And then takes control

He sees her approaching
A tear swells in her eye
Wordless, she holds her hand
He starts to cry

Wearily, he rises
He wipes her tears away
Together, they left that street
To play for her, another day

He played for her
Another day
