Dark Hours

Dark Hours
Face to face with the dark side
A place of emptiness and non-belief
I defeat fear in an eye staring contest
My limitations are subdued
I feel no sense of moral obligation
My rights and wrongs blend into grey
I feel in total control
Jekyll meets Hyde
Superman meets Clark Kent
Lucifer meets Satan
Something warns me of the trail of this path
The destination is dubious but the benefits seem certain
I'm told they are short-term
I'm reminded life is short-term
What happens after?
What is the retirement plan with such ways?
I drift in and out of consciousness
Surviving purely on instinct like a predator with its prey
I should pray but why rely on any but myself
I'm scared for you but you're scared for me
I square up with life's battles
My gloves protecting my hands in this un-officiated combat
With aims to come out on top
I hear a big thump as my body collapses against the hard ground
I hear the final ring of the bell
The lights flashing
Just bright enough to pull me out of this dark hour
