Dark Slopes Away

Bruised hills buckle under the day,
Grey harl is betrayed, by the early onset;
The trickle and drip

Between monolithic things, Dozing leviathan.
The flood is a-quiver in satellite valleys,
as dark slopes away.

Gills dive, two abreast
from clifftop to wave,
oh, a crestfallen display
that suddenly means everything to me

So many things lodged in my throat,
you'll never know,
If we slab over the things unspoke,
will mason bees still flow from stories we've told, so hollow.

The dark slopes away,
through grieving trees.
Doused in dismay,
In car, atop multi-storey

Trees thrust up by a bypass palisade,
under skies like fire ripped through a church roof.
Find your shape before the ring-roads encircle you.

So many things you say I'll never see,
from a verge unshadowed,
oh look, here comes your piety.
No men left like Odysseus, no unknown seas,
just floating polystyrene left for we.

Dandelion overrun me,
Spanish Heath overcome me,
Buttercup, overwhelm me,
I think I've had enough
