Eshaness

Take me North,
over a horseshoe of roaring rock,
trembling with sea.
Birds below, yet I stand in a field of stallion;
It makes no sense to me,
my upturned downs on the salt and spray.
I'm miniaturised by lighthouse and sky.

Suddenly lines shift into focus,
for a moment, a moment just - just for us,
and I hope for the quiet tinnitus of,
Eshaness

We're teetering at Eshaness,
and all the while it seems
we've been playing pretend

Now back here with only grit,
under my forefinger and index.
I need you to scour the fume from my skin,
Hold the watercup to my lips - I forget to drink.

Please don't leave me here, I don't look after myself, I forget to drink
