(Taking a) Nightstand

I was naked and they told me I wore designer clothes
Chaotic, cosmopolitan straight from the runway of the cosmos
Two armed guards stood watch as I began living a story never to be told
And my guardian janitor was a step behind holding a golden broom and his nose
I was showered in praise by the many clouds that loomed over my home
As lightning struck the clocktower in the square of the city as it struck noon

Ahh but ignore the tour guide that lives in your mind

Introspective as a child, an astronomer as an adult
Still doing the same thing just now so removed from myself I need a telescope
The gut is to feeling as the Bermuda triangle is to boats
And then there's once hungry spirits now so full of themselves it helps keep them afloat
To become to the world what we once were to the God we no longer know
Seems to them as easy as finding a cloud full of mirrors and famous people

Ahh but ignore the tour guide that lives in your mind

The sun went down on the world when it was looking good what else would you expect?
I will give, I will give anything I can get
Love's like a parking spot, the best one's they fill up quick
I wouldn't have met you if I hadn't met you the moment after he left
But it was a convenient walk to your heart and I thought I was set
Until I saw a sign posted that said I need a parking permit

Ahh but ignore the tour guide that lives in your mind

Every chain store in this city was open but I could find no open arms
Silent brushing by the infinity of the periphery of everything that isn't who we are
I was beside myself but only so I didn't have to be alone in the dark
Finally God answered my prayers but knowing I'm a singer I'm sure he just did it for PR
I've got good traction and I don't care if I've taken a turn for the worst
I will stand my ground until I become the ground that stands for the earth

Ahh but ignore the tour guide that wants to control your ears and eyes
