Shed

Drowning in a pool of my mistakes and regrets
Trying to get above water with all this weight on my chest
Plus I got the past chained to my neck
Stuck repaying a debt
Until my soul is way to drained to collect
I've been patient and yet
I'm still battling every demon that's been chasing my steps
It's frustrating until I'm shaken and set
To put my fist through anything
I avoid fights cuz I'm afraid to get vexed
Had a lot of issues that I came to accept
I let them fester until my brain was a mess
And point the blame at the rest
Endless excuses not to face the duress
Until what I became at best
Was a maze of neglect
I'll just take what I get
I used to hate on anybody with a grain of success
To justify me not taking that trek
Years of wasting my breath
Now I'm still looking for a way to connect

I've hurt a lot of people that I claimed to respect
Wish I could turn back time and change for the best
Or make a break for the west
But I'm no coward so I'm facing the stress
Learned from my momma how to store the pain
She made me a vet
Now I got a family I aim to protect
And the queen of my dreams keeps my anger in check
Rich with love I'm not chasing a check
I simply came to inject you with poetry
And find some space to reflect

Floating in uncertainty I wade in a net
Waiting to get the go like the age of consent
I'll leave a path like the pavement is wet
And every statement I rec
Get head nods, they'll need a brace for their neck
And I'm famous for niet
Unless I'm pushing my limits until my grave is my bed
The finish line is still way up ahead
So I'm baking some bread
Hip hop's my true love, my haven and stead
The higher the stakes, the braver the bet
Find your peace or find a noose over your face and your neck
Searching for freedom found enslavement instead
Walking aimless like the day of the dead
What a way to elect
I presume my day is the next
So I'm filling up on dough like I ate a baguette
Is there any chance that I just might escape with respect
Cuz apologies are great
I just hope that they can accept

I've hurt a lot of people that I claimed to respect
Wish I could turn back time and change for the best
Or make a break for the west
But I'm no coward so I'm facing the stress
Learned from my momma how to store the pain
She made me a vet
Now I got a family I aim to protect
And the queen of my dreams keeps my anger in check
Rich with love I'm not chasing a check
I simply came to inject you with poetry
And find some space to reflect
