Search Dogs

Coffee cup with a broken rim faintly smells of cinnamon
Like a snake yet to shed its skin, this home feels far to small
And when all the things I've left behind no longer linger in my mind
I cast their ashes out behind, and watch the raindrops fall

Well I've sharpened up my pocketknife even sharper than my mind
Left the things I have collected so that I am undefined
Now you may call me crazy, you might think that it's a shame
You may question motivation, but I'll ask you all the same to

Call off the search dogs, cause I have not lost my way
I let the floating needle lead astray
And though the dogs may find me they'll probably join my pack instead
'Cause I'm feeling more alive than I have in a while
Without a trail ahead I'm fine

Like a tree split by lighting strike, and then hollowed by the rain
My trunk burned bright and painful, then was finally quenched again
That hollow may look empty but empty's open too
It's naked, raw and vacant, its callused core removed

I don't yet know what I am searching for
But staying still would surely be my end
I climb in hopes that I'll find the lack I'm looking for
Until that time I'll ask you once again

To call off the search dogs, cause I have not lost my way
I let the floating needle lead a stray
And though the dogs may find me they'll probably join my pack instead
'Cause I'm feeling more alive than I have in a while
Without a trail ahead I'm fine
Without a trail ahead I'm fine
