The Summertime

In the summertime, we laid in the grass
And cast our voices to the sky
And the clouds took the shape
Of whatever we wanted them to take

In the summertime, we sat beneath a tree
And pondered the shadows of the leaves
And the branches start to sway
Slow and lazy like the middle of the day

Late at night on the couch on the porch
We listened to music playing through the screen door
And then we danced beneath the Alabama moon
All things that can happen - they can happen soon
But you'll have to wait - you'll have to wait

In the summertime, we laid in the grass
And cast our voices to the sky
