Drifting in Smoke

We're drifting in smoke - we're in the same room but we hardly spoke
I don't need to read the book you wrote - it doesn't say a thing I don't already know
Dust in the sunlight floats, down from a dream - I awoke

We're drifting in light - I didn't have to stay awake all night
Painting pictures from my your mind - I couldn't do it wrong, but I couldn't make it right
I looked at the photograph to try and see into the past
Like looking through windows that aren't really
There, I see your eyes - they look away from the camera but up to the sky

Can't see what's here or gone, can't tell what thoughts you thought
When the flashbulb caught that frozen instant in time
It can haunt you

We're drifting in smoke - scattered out into the cloud of unknown
It's an intricate tone - are we apart or are we alone?

Alone
