Tillie's Blues

Amy's mum one day said "Let's away!
We'll go and see that Tillikum"
And with eyes open wide
By the clear poolside
They cheered the performance of Tillikum

And in bed that night
With her arms wrapped tight
Round a toy made by faraway hands
Little Amy did swim
With his blackfish kin
Through seas to faraway lands

And the seas did resound
To their sonar sound
As they span, leapt, dived and spun again
And 'til break of day
With them she played
But she never once saw Tillikum

Who in the gloom
Of a small, metal room
Where it hurt him just to turn around
Dreamt he swam through tide
By his mother's side
To a place where he couldn't be found

And as day did break
Her mum she wakes
"I've swum with the friends of Tillikum"
Were the words she said
As she clomb in bed
As she snuggled up, laughed and dozed again

But miles away
It pains to say
'Neath a grey, Norwegian dawn
There's a mother who cries
For the space beside her of one that she had borne.
