Sandskimmer

Like dust from a sirocco
I skim across the sands
My eyes bleed from the light
And the skin peels from my hands

I thought I was the snake
'Cause I was not the scorpion
But that didn't feel right
When I stuck out my tongue

This shattered glass inside my eyes
Refracting light, seeing colours that aren't there
If I could understand this brokenness behind my eyes
Maybe then I'd see the truth

The sand, it turns to glass
It's the season of the sun
And the night, it fades away
So I start to run

I can see what the future holds
But my eyes are playing tricks
My mind begins to take flight
And so as morning hits

I wake up to the light
It's the first time I haven't seen the night
The sunlight burns my eyes and makes my skin blister and burn
So I slink back to the shadows

I rummage through this pile of bones
All those who the desert claimed
I suck the marrow out and toss them back aside
I don't think it'll ever change

The desert will never change
And my lips craved for a fountain
But I reached the edge of the desert
And saw the peaks of the mountains
