Disillusionment

All our lives
We've been told
There's another world out there
Better than
The one we know
More than we could imagine
Though it's a reach
We're told to dream
Leave our old selves and hide
Cut our tongues
While we're still young
Hope and pray we'll all be fine

Disillusionment haunts me and my pride
If I'm not who I am
Then who am I?

They all assume
And see us as
Intelligent but submissive
Our work is used
As a weapon
Against all who do not fit in
Can't we all dream?
Without extremes?
Stop always looking away
One day we'll all be
Taken away
And no one will be left to say

Disillusionment haunts me and my pride
If I'm not who I am
Then who am I?
