10 Years Piece

She got colder
As she got older
I ain't judging her
I'm just saying my piece
And she feels tired
Of what she hides behind
And she told me so
With a face I'd never seen

He feels cheated
Like his soul is gone
He talks with god at times
When anger burns away his eyes
He did some prison time
When he was twenty two
His drinking killed a man
And he often hears his cries

Remember when we were young
The world was still so bright and pure
And we never got cold
Now a candle in a heavy wind
We keep holding on
To what we think we were

She don't sleep much
She waits up for the stars
Drinking coffee black
At the table alone
She shoots nine ball
At Lefty's Tavern
Leaves out with different men
Who have her fathers eyes

Innocence
Recompense
I ain't seen myself in the light in quite some time
And find me hopefulness
Find me anything
To mend my wounds and wash away my mind
And we keep going down a road
And we can't quite seem to recognize
Why dead eyes won't glow
And though we've been here before
We keep drifting 10 years back
Just fighting off the rains

He's been 10 years
Out from Branchville now
But he's still held down
Like when they came in the night
He keeps these secrets
From his wife and kids
If he reveals himself
Will they love him as he is

So find me innocence
Find me recompense
I ain't seen myself in the light in quite some time
And find me hopefulness
Find me anything
To mend my wounds and wash away my mind
And we keep going down a road
And we can't quite seem to recognize
Why dead eyes won't glow
And though we've been here before
We keep drifting 10 years back Just fighting off the rains
