Hast Thou Considered the Tetrapod (The Jordan Lake Sessions Volume 4)
You are sleeping off your demons
When I come home
Spittle bubbling on your lips
Fine white foam
I am young and I am good
It's a hot southern California day
If I wake you up, there will be hell to pay
And alone in my room
I am the last of a lost civilization
And I vanish into the dark
And rise above my station
Rise, rise above my station
But I do wake you up, and when I do
You blaze down the hall and you scream
I'm in my room with the headphones on
Deep in the dream chamber
And then I'm awake and I'm guarding my face
Hoping you don't break my stereo
Because it's the one thing that I couldn't live without
And so I think about that and then I sorta blackout
Held under these smothering waves
By your strong and thick veined hand
But one of these days, I'm going to wriggle up on dry land
(I gotta get some eh, lyrics from over at the piano, meet you back here)
(Was that weird)
(No it was good)
(That was my best bud)
(It didn't feel like I could get in there on the piano)
(But then I switched, switched)
(Yeah, I know, it was a good thought. I should have switched earlier, man)
(Oh good. The piano in the right places)
(You're not doing that right)
(We're almost done! You guys right?)
(Because, when when when we are playing them, when we're getting them right)
(We just, it it feels like this kicking kinda off)
(Okay. I love this amp here!)
(The direct box here is like really cool)
(So I'll tell you a story, emm)
(We were in eh Muscle Shoals Alabama recording emm)
(The album that became Dark In Here, and ah-mm ah)
(There had been news of something going on for a while, and ehm ah)
(And news looks bad. It wasn't terrible yet, but there was weird stuff going on)
(Like people making a run on san hand sanitizer. Right, like we we went to to buy some stuff at the eh eh)
(CBS, next to the studio, next to Fame, and eh they had no more hand sanitizer)
(Done, and toilet paper. Everyone was making a run on toilet paper)
(I remember saying to the band, I'm not real sure we're going to be touring later this year fella's, ehm)
(And I had an idea, 'cuz I was reading a book, 'Chronicle of the last Pagans')
(That I was reading in Memphis the week before, and I was getting ideas)
('Cuz when you work in the studio with your Bro's for like two weeks, the ideas start to fire)
(You start to feel like: 'Wow, if I had millions of dollars', you know)
(If it was Fleetwood Mac time, I would stay in the studio for six months)
(And write three albums worth of stuff or whatever, you know)
(So I had, I had the idea for a song all the ray that we played last time here)
(And ehm, by the time, you know, by the time we finished the session, I no longer felt safe flying home)
(I was ehm, you know, I was riding home with Matt)
(I don't want to get on an airplane, so ehm)
(So we rode home, and I had already written one lyric, so I just kept goin')
(And, eh, ten days later eh the world was a substantially different place than it seemed like before)
(And I wrote this, and it's called Exegetic Chains)
