The Other Table

The people at the other table seemed to be in love
So I watched them all night
I suppose I could have left if push declined to shove
But sitting in the darkness felt right

There were other tables, but no-one seemed to radiate
All the joy that young lovers do
So I ordered another lobster bisque and turned off my machine
And imbibed another brew

The waitress checked on me eleven times before the manager arrived
To wonder what I was doing now.
I told them that I liked to watch and that I always had I
That I would watch all nature would allow.

The Other Table was beautiful
The Other Table was right
If I had to follow them around
I would watch all night

The janitor turned off the lights and the parking lot was dead
So I sat inside my car
I waited for inspiration or an idea to descend
Instead I went to the nearest bar

I sat near the pool table and offered some advice
To see what stuck to anyone
People told me to get lost and vanish into darkness
So I pulled out a gun

The Other Table was beautiful
The Other Table was right
If I had to follow them around
I would watch all night
