Christmas Bells (A Poem Read by Edward Ian Chappe)

The snow had fallen all around the town on Christmas Day
The merrymaking music of the organ grinder played
The cry of pain as Mr Dene fell clean up off his feet
The voices of the little children playing in the street
The dancing and the singing, and the chiming of the church bells
The snowmen and the sledging and the homely Christmas smells

The greetings of felicitation flowing to and fro
The feelings of gratification gave a little glow
The skating on the river was a scenic sight to see
The hoorahs and huzzah's as they hoist the Christmas tree
The wonder on the faces of the little boys and girls
The spirit of the season in the ringing Christmas bells

The pulling of the penny from the pudding was a blast
The parlour games that we all played together, how we laughed
The tale of the nativity with toddlers on the floor
The chatting and reflecting on the year that went before
And sitting by the crackling fire and cracking walnut shells
While faraway the pealing of the holy Christmas bells
