A True Fairy Tale

There was a time when I thought all love letters were just papercuts waiting to happen
Then again there was that moment when I wrote my number on a napkin, handed it to the waitress
Said she could call me anytime. But she never did
She never did
Miracles only happen on 34th street. But they don't happen there anymore
But on the corner of 25th and March, another baby's being born
She and I are walking together
We're laughing at the sunshine just like little kids
Just like little kids

But all this only happens in storybooks or so I've been told
Only for those who believe they'll never grow old
Life and love is a mystery that stretches beyond any sea
It's a juxtaposition, it's an oxymoronic phrase
The sign reads, 'Fresh Food" but it's stale
It's a true, it's a true
Fairytale

People call me a romantic but I've never been to Rome
And I don't spend so much time being scratched at behind dog's ears
If anything I'm a pirate and I've been sailing for years
One time I stayed up all night just to catch Santa and his reindeer
But the only thing I caught was my daddy stuffing stockings and drinking beer
It was a dissolution but what I saw filled me with joy
Daddy was Santa and I was his little boy

But all this only happens in storybooks or so I've been told
Only for those who believe they'll never grow old
Life and love is a mystery that stretches beyond any sea
It's a juxtaposition, it's an oxymoronic phrase
Another innocent man's in jail
It's a true, it's a true
Fairytale
