Teeth

I feel safe in my retainer
Nightly proof my teeth are straighter
Than the night when we first met
I never failed to second guess
My hand's position in relation to yours
Sweaty palms and greasy pores
Drunken nights and hardwood floors
Calling my mom to see if
She can give us both a ride home

I feel home in my retainer
On the futon in my basement
Everyone I ever kissed
The opportunities I missed
Records spinning and my vision spinning too
And that clown hung on the wall
He bore witness to it all
Every tear issued and every bong I ever ripped with you

And tonight I brush my teeth
In the mirror so straight and neat
All I can wonder is
"Would I ever go back?"
