Finally Paid Off

It takes time
To clean away every stain laying waste in the back of my mind
So I'd say that's why my closets still stacked a mile high
I lost sight
Can't say I remember what it is that you want me to find
But I'll try my best to read between the lines

Years ago
I didn't care if I knew what I want to do
My only concern was if I'd be able to steal some basement beers
While avoiding the motion censor of the light
Outside your parents room
There was nothing else to do
It was all we consumed
Just rotting away upstairs with you
All gone too soon

So now I'm looking at same sky but it's a different shade of grey
We used to run through the streets
Write our names in concrete
While waiting for the rain
To wash us away
Like pollen in the spring

Years ago
I didn't care if I knew what I want to do
My only concern was if I'd be able to steal some basement beers
While avoiding the motion censor of the light
Outside your parents room
There was nothing else to do
It was all we consumed
Just rotting away upstairs with you
All gone too soon

Like the smell of incense and cigarettes
Burned into the wood
All the inside jokes I can't remember though I wish I could
I wish you told me
To store away
Any moment that meant a thing to me
Cause when I look back now all I see
Is space between the trees
A part of what I need

Years ago
I didn't care if I knew what I want to do
My only concern was if I'd be able to steal some basement beers
While avoiding the motion censor of the light
Outside your parents room
There was nothing else to do
It was all we consumed
Just rotting away upstairs with you
All gone too soon
