birthday

Birthday, 2014
Bus from georgia to tennessee
A plan on which we'd both agreed

Catch a little sleep
On michael's couch
In the morning she calls me out
A half day's leave
From the summer job
Where she'd teach

Have breakfast out
In some cafe
Where the conversation strained
Here and so soon gone away --
Not much to say

She drops me off
South of town
Two miles from where i live now
I turned 21 waiting around

When just then a kid
On his bike
Rolls up to my side
And asks if i can spare a five

I say "alright"
And give him ten
I turn to walk away and then
He says "thanks
It's my birthday"
