Forever Home

I always thought when I grew up
That I'd find my one true place
I'd settle there and put down roots
My own retreat from the human race

I met a girl, we got married
Saved up and bought a little farm
We coulda wandered anywhere we wanted
But the leaving always seemed so hard

In time that home was just a house
As time went by things fell apart
We separated and went our separate ways
I had to make a whole new start

So many years
I tried to find my footing
So many roads
Were really just dead ends
So many tears
But I kept looking
For that place to call
My forever home

And so I rambled, made a little money
Just enough to move along
Still I kept searching for a harbor
That one true place where I belong

Old and tired I finally settled down
Where I'll spend the rest of forever
Surrounded by wheelchairs and walkers
Three squares a day, halfway to heaven

But don't you know this isn't my last stop
That'll be a hole in the ground
Underneath a moonlit sky
Back to the earth that's where I'm bound
