One Christmas Eve in Romford (With the Cockney Girl)
A chance meeting in Romford
Saw her seeing me at a distance
She came running, a rush of her ombré mane
Her eyes were wide
She ran into my arms like she used to
when we were once together
Yet she didn't notice me viewing
This encounter from another side
As I stared into a glass ball
which depicted us in a snowglobe world
The snow cold of the Christmas Eve
weather blew in our faces
She smiled just like she used to
But she didn't look at me with hungry eyes I once knew
Any love once between us had disappeared without a trace
Without a trace
"Fancy seeing you here!" She said in a warm tone of voice
I laughed and told her why I was in front of her
"I've been on a plane which landed at Heathrow
And will return to Scotland soon enough," I murmured
"But hold on," she said
"Heathrow is fifty miles away from Romford
I scratched my head as I avoided telling her the truth
"So, you're living here now, it's a nice change of pace
I gulped as I began to let go of the times we shared in our youth
Times in our youth
Despite the distance that loomed between us
I will always be the jester in hopes of making you laugh
All I long for is to hear your laugh
Will you only laugh for me?
We walked for a little while and spoke of so many things
She told me that she was pregnant and engaged to another
I was devastated at the words that murdered my dreams
Although, I really should expected her to have a new lover
It's funny but when we walked there was no else in the world
Just- Just her and I in a usually bustling London town
Some people just captivate you regardless if they mean to or not
And by God, for me on that cold day it was her hair so brown
Her hair so brown
We ventured into a little café near her flat where she lived
She offered to pay for the meal, and I refused
I said it wasn't courteous of me if I allowed her to pay
I had hoped this would have made her feel disabused
She said to me that she was surprised
I was still as humble like she had once known
I choked on my tea as I thought
'Don't you know me any better than that?
She looked defensive, crossed her arms and furrowed her brow
"Evidently, with what I've seen from your work
It's not money you lack
Money you lack
I yearned for her, I loved her, I missed her
I longed to hold her, to caress her, to kiss her
But, it's never going to change
And there's nothing I could really say to ease my pain
The plates laid utterly empty and the snow outside still fell
I flicked the money onto the table, and I watched her leave
It's funny but even then as I watched her turn her back
That familiar schoolboy feeling of dejection began to again interweave
Again interweave
All that's left to say is fly away, my sweet White dove
You will always be in my heart and in my head
You showed me the true two sides of love
I can promise you one thing
I will remember you until the day that I am dead
Saw her seeing me at a distance
She came running, a rush of her ombré mane
Her eyes were wide
She ran into my arms like she used to
when we were once together
Yet she didn't notice me viewing
