Sewer People
It's better down here beneath the street
No people I don't wanna meet
That's what the sewer people told me
when I fell down the well
I never got used to the darkness
And it stunk like hell
A candle flickered in the distance
I felt my way along
Some dude was griping 'bout a pickle
He told me what was wrong
And he said...
I gave years hearing, helping, and supporting my friend
And I know I shouldn't care so much
But I don't know how else to be
It's better down here beneath the street
No people I don't wanna meet
A barrel blazing round the corner
Down here it's always cold
Each politely waited their turn
To spout what they were told
They talked around and round in circles
And agreed the world was lost (like, what's the point?)
A shrinking box of good behavior
With lines not to be crossed
And they said...
You're out of your mind if you think this world is anything other than a playground for the rich and powerful
It's better down here beneath the street
No people I don't wanna meet
The exit wasn't hard to find
Just climb a ladder up
But when I opened up the manhole
Those sewer people pulled it shut
They said, "you don't wanna be like them
Just stay down here with us
You can lick your wounds 'til kingdom come
The free water is a plus"
And I told em...
You won't keep me down here but I'll be back here soon enough
Don't make me an enemy of your cause against light because you prefer the dark
I like it up there out on the street
You never know who you'll meet
No people I don't wanna meet
That's what the sewer people told me
when I fell down the well
I never got used to the darkness
And it stunk like hell
A candle flickered in the distance
