What You Were to Me

The casserole dish
was only half empty
And on the platter
there was still a big hunk of turkey

We said goodbye to the guests
And I said hello to the leftover food
But there were many things I forgot
Yeah, in the sink, there were a whole lot

And then came the fateful time
You know what I mean, I had to clean off the grime
From the plates, the cups, the saucers too
And then I was left face to face with you

Food that got caught in the food trap
Why did you get caught in the food trap?
I don't want to see you, don't want to feel you
Don't want to touch you anymore
Squishy food that's caught in the food trap
Did you think that would make me give a second glance
To you?
No, you're just wet food
And I can't even see what you were to me
What you were to me
You look just like a lump

When you were on the platters, being served
I didn't even feel slightly unnerved
But now we're here, and you're half-dissolved
And I'm using Walmart soap to clean you off

And now I feel you, but I don't want to
Because it feels like my soul leaves my body
When I touch you, I don't want to
But it's something I must do

Each and every fateful time
You know what I mean, I have to clean off the grime
From the plates, the cups, the saucers too
And I am left face to face with you

Food that got caught in the food trap
Why did you get caught in the food trap?
I don't want to see you, don't want to feel you
Don't want to touch you anymore
Squishy food that's caught in the food trap
Did you think that would make me give a second glance
To you?
No, you're just wet food

And I can't even see what you were to me
What you were to me...

What do you think you are doing
Staying stubbornly stuck on that cup
When you don't look like anything
More than just a pale yellow gritty lump

Did you think that would make me wanna
Scarf you down with some fresh clean water
When you didn't even get eaten
the first time around?

Food that got caught in the food trap
Why did you get caught in the food trap?
I don't want to see you, don't want to feel you
Don't want to touch you anymore

Food that got caught in the food trap
Why did you get caught in the food trap?
I don't want to see you, don't want to feel you
Don't want to touch you anymore
Squishy food that's caught in the food trap
Did you think that would make me give a second glance
To you?
No, you're just wet food

When I put the dishes in the sink to wash them
And I reach in to rub soap on them
I don't wanna see you, feel you, know you're there
Squishy food you cause me despair
You should just disappear into the trash
And not get stuck in my food trap
'Cuz you
Are just a mound of pale wet food
And I can't even see what you were to me
What you were to me
You look just like a lump
