O Moon

O moon
O self-effacing moon
You see the world
As it ought to be
And, yet, what the world is
Is naught but a dim reflection
Of your view

O moon
O splinter-faced moon
You observe the
Movements of the clouds
And, yet the clouds still shift
To obscure the manifold sins
Of those below

O moon
O pure and lovely moon
You only see
All the best of me
Yet if you knew
The things I do
You'd not think so highly
Of me

O moon
O ever-smiling moon
You watch as a world
Sleeps in its own filth
But you, you will still bless its sleep
O moon
You see the best in me

And the Sun
Your rival the Sun
Will work with you
And help you to be
A beacon for the seasons
Of Man

O moon
O aged and ageless moon
But words sung
By such as these
Cannot describe
Your glance
Yet, we've fallen in love
With the moon
