Trinity River

He took me down by the river just to watch the sun set
It was summer in Texas and we'd only just met
The sky turned deep blue and purple blending into blood red
And all that natural splendor might have gone to my head

He took me down by the river just to look at the sky
And watch the ripples in the water shimmer in the sunlight
We sat there shoulder to shoulder watching day become night
But then he pulled me in closer, wrapped his hand around mine

It was the Trinity River that got the best of me
The Trinity River in all its quiet majesty
The Trinity River, he stole my heart from me
Down by the Trinity River

He took me down by the river in the town he calls home
He knew the prettiest spot where we could be all alone
And there he took me down, he took me gentle and slow
He took all of my loving and my heart for his own

He took me down by the river on a warm summer night
And the moment was magic, everything was just right
Just the sound of the water and the dwindling light
Bet I'll remember that evening for the rest of my life

It was the Trinity River that got the best of me
The Trinity River in all its quiet majesty
The Trinity River exposed my vulnerability
The Trinity River
It was the Trinity River, just flowing into eternity
The Trinity River in all its wordless poetry
The Trinity River I fell in love so easily down by the Trinity River
