If You Were Here

God, can you show me how to grow
These wings of mine are shorn and shattered in the cold
I learn each lesson over and over and over again
But I'm still small and worn

God I know that you are near
But each time my head spins from what it hears
I wonder why you left so much unresolved
I can't change it alone

If you were here
How would you speak?
While the world keeps on revealing itself
For what it is

God, can you show me how to trust
How you grow again the garden from the dust
To put myself aside and read between the lines enough to see the signs of change

If you were here
How would you love?
While the world keeps on taking for itself more than it gives

If you were here
How would you live?
How would you pick up the broken pieces of existence
To teach me my part in it
To show how you bring back to life all the beauty we have lost?
