Fire of the Glades

In the Everglades abandoned life
Under cypress domes we spent the night
The jagged sawgrass is where we took a hike
Until our feet were cut like a rusted knife
The barren land stained a dark deep red
The drying sand the unkempt roots
The air hung thick you said that you couldn't breathe
The wind gusts were strong and the sun beamed down
I stood there among the flattened land and
The pluming clouds a struck blue sky
You couldn't stand on your thrashened soles
We turned back through the beaten path
That night I dreamt of a wildfire
We ran away from the flames their light swallowed the dark
The ashes caught my hair my head engulfed in flames
I fell into the coals swallowed by heat
I woke up sweating with a red flushed face
You seemed worried and soothed me back to sleep

I went back and saw the orange sky and
The molten ash and the black burnt pines
I went back into the place we camped
Into the cypress dome to look down beneath
At the charring death like a dying star
A thing once alive was now exploded in heat (x6)
