The Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5)
Jesus saw the crowds
Then He walked up this hill
Where He sat down
His disciples gathered round him
And He began to teach them
Oh, just like many times before
A sermon on the mount
Deals with true happiness
Happy are those who know that they are spiritually poor
For the kingdom in heaven belongs to them all
Happy are those who mourn
For God will comfort them all
Happy are those who are humble
Those who work for peace
God will call you His children and you will receive His promise
Happy are the pure in heart
For they will all see God
Happy are those whose greatest desire
Is to do whatsoever the Lord God requires
God will satisfy you completely and without end
Happy are those who are merciful and kind
God will be merciful to you all
And if you're persecuted in My name
The kingdom of heaven will be your gain
This same teaching challenges us today
Are you truly happy?
Will you be rewarded on that day?
Now what God has promised
All He is certain to do
So listen to this teaching
And true happiness He'll give to you
Then He walked up this hill
Where He sat down
His disciples gathered round him
And He began to teach them
Oh, just like many times before
A sermon on the mount
Deals with true happiness
Happy are those who know that they are spiritually poor
For the kingdom in heaven belongs to them all
