Highway Homecoming

On the highway I like to stay in the left lane
Cause I'm so fucking impatient
I need to get where I am going
I can't be complacent
I only go like ten or fifteen over the speed limit
If you think I'm a maniac you should mind your own business

So many people out on the road
So many different places they go
So many lanes to watch on the highway
I like to daydream when I'm alone
Driving in autopilot a zone
But every time I get where I'm going
Only thing that keeps me safe is some little white lines
A false sense of security
But do I think about it
No
It's just a part of the day to day life that I have to embark

Every car I pass has a person inside
Living a life just as equally complex as mine
They have fears and they have dreams and they have closet skeletons
They have things that make them cry and they have things that make them grin
So I try to comprehend
How many people are alive right now
We just take up so much space
Do we even have enough
I guess that's why there's a lot of traffic
We're all over stuffed

So many people out on the road
So many different places they go
So many lanes to watch on the highway
I like to daydream when I'm alone
Driving in autopilot a zone
But every time I get where I'm going
Only thing that keeps me safe is some little white lines
A false sense of security
But do I think about it
No
It's just a part of the day to day life that I have to embark

I'm coming home
I'm almost there
I'm coming home
I'm almost there

I'm coming home
I'm coming home
I'm almost there
I'm almost there
I drove two hundred miles
I drove two hundred miles

Every year the room I grew up in looks miniature
It's a homecoming few things like before
Drive around look out at the skyline
It grew a little more
It's a homecoming with all new neighbors
I work to maintain connections
Got friends around here
I'm happy to see them three times a year
It's just a part of our lives
People grow apart
Is where you're from still always your home

Not a thing will last for forever
Nothing tangible
But a memory lives on eternal
Doesn't matter where that I have been
Just where I am now
In a homecoming your past stays around
All the places I used to frequent doing fine without me
I left a mark that only I see
It's a place that gave me direction
Told me where to go
Every homecoming to my home I'm thankful
