Negotiating

I've been negotiating for something I won't get
A change in season, a shift in expression
I've been wishing upon a star that's too far
Am I ignored, or is it distracted?
I've been reflecting on something that won't think
Maybe this mirror's got a crack in it
I've been singing 'bout a tone-deaf guy
The last time I saw him was mid-July

But even then, I swear I'm happy
Life gets boring if it isn't messy
A few white lies, some stuttering
This is just me improvising
I wish I could say everything I'm going through
The good, the bad, the ugly
All to you
The weird guy on the subway, all about my day
Tell me when you get a break

I nurture my plants, but they all die
Turns out the water's got too much fluoride
One survived, though, close to the window
I couldn't wait to watch it grow
Was wondering why my friends weren't enthusiastic
Turns out that plant's leaves are made of plastic

But even then, I swear I'm happy
Life gets boring if it isn't messy
A few white lies, some stuttering
This is just me improvising
I wish I could say everything I'm going through
The good, the bad, the ugly
All to you
The weird guy on the subway, all about my day
Tell me when you get a break

Got tired of waiting, so I went home
Felt solitary, felt so alone
I finally hit rock-bottom, wouldn't you agree?
But then I realized I forgot my fucking key

But even then, I swear I'm happy
Life gets boring if it isn't messy
A few white lies, some stuttering
This is just me improvising
I wish I could say everything I'm going through
The good, the bad, the ugly
All to you
The weird guy on the subway, all about my day
Tell me when you get a break
