birds (elegy)

The struggle is a stream of water through the gutter
We skip, holding up leaves just to flow into a dream
Birds on a string of nostalgia and flutter
There must be something in this florescent rain

Pastorals written on blacktop grain
When suffrage refrains the same
Summer showers and wind to tame
As I look at the soft night that came

Kissin' the flowers that bend over cement
Smelling the air as it permeates the brain
I will continue to dwell in this slow lament
For I wish the will nature would never change
