Dust

I could sit out in the sun and get burned down to the bone
But if you hold me close tonight it won't matter anymore
I wish you could open up to me and learn to trust
But instead we sit in silence as the daylight turns to dusk

You get out what you put in and you get what you deserve
But I won't think that's true until I'm playing with your curls
Even if you say the word and it shakes me to my core
When I play a show in town, I'll leave a ticket at the door

I don't know how to handle my emotions
But you do
We can drive until the morning sun comes up and
All these feelings turn to dust

Even if you don't care for me, all I want is some clarity
But you're mixing guilty pleasures with a hint of insincerity
Everything is spinning and I don't know who I am
When I told you how I felt about you, you went on the lam

I don't know how to handle my emotions
But you do
We can drive until the morning sun comes up and
All these feelings turn to dust

To me, I feel like it's when I can look back on something that used to really hurt or make me upset
Or just kinda gave me that, like, uneasy feeling
And I can look back on it now and feel more comfortable with it
And feel like, kinda, some of that pain has settled
Or even that something that used to hurt me cuz I miss it
Now I can just look back and smile and be happy that it happened
