Tears on Your Face (Behind the Song)

So our friend Karli Venable
Who I have counted as a co-writer in this song
Because she really shepherded me
And big sistered me in John 11
A few years ago when I was going through a hard time
And she really zoomed in
On the mystery and the beauty of Jesus
God wearing a human frame, condescending to that
Pursuing me in that
Identifying with me in that

And then it's, John 11 is this scene
This real relationship and friendship
That Jesus had with this family
With Lazarus and his sisters, Mary and Martha
And Lazarus dies
And Jesus is present with them in that
And she really zoomed in and I feel like
The point of it why it's in the bible
Is for us to look at John 11:35, "Jesus wept"
That He didn't just like rush in with a cape
And raised Lazarus but that
He paused in that

That's been really confronting to me
That I'm invited into that with Him
To pause in grieve
To pause in the questions that
Mary and Martha are asking Him
And His not pushing them away for
But welcomed in to pause
And He weeps with me
