Christmas Eve at Denny's

As we were driving down the boulevard
Feeling futile in our search
It was nine pm on Christmas Eve
And we'd just got out of Church
We planned on eating out for dinner
But not an open joint in sight
Then a voice came from the back seat
Look there's a Dennys on the right

It was Christmas Eve at Dennys
We give thanks that it's still open
It was Christmas Eve at Dennys
Just not the place that we were hoping
The birthplace of sweet Jesus
Was no Holiday Inn
And dinner for our family
Was not three star Michelin

The waitress said Merry Christmas
As she walked across the floor
She smiled and said I'd get the eggs
Because Jason's never cooked before
Everybody's off for the Holidays
Except us folks who got no kids
So take a seat and please be patient
And that's exactly what we did

It was Christmas Eve at Dennys
We give thanks that it's still open
It was Christmas Eve at Dennys
Just not the place that we were hoping
The birthplace of sweet Jesus
Was no Holiday Inn
And dinner for our family
Was not three star Michelin

There was an old man back in the corner
Who looked like he just got off the street
And a scruffy family with four kids
Acting like this was a treat
Our food was cold, and the flavor bland
Yet it was a blessed night
Merry Christmas Eve at Dennys
May the hope of peace shine bright

It was Christmas Eve at Dennys
We give thanks that it's still open
It was Christmas Eve at Dennys
Just not the place that we were hoping
The birthplace of sweet Jesus
Was no Holiday Inn
And dinner for our family
Was not three star Michelin
