Xoxo
In the corner of your notebook
I wrote grids for tic tac toe
And in the grids, we ticked boxes to fill it with xes and oes
You were adamant to win
Yet all I really wanted
Was another reason to be with the person
That I adore the most
To see you grin or get frustrated over a game that most kids know
And what was just pen strokes
Or scribbles on a page
Drew out a line to connect us
That could never be erased
And even if I could
I wouldn't change
A thing
And I know that I shouldn't
Put meaning to every thing
But two letters arranged
To try to place
Themselves into three in a row
To them it's another game of tic tac toe
But to us, it's more like
Xoxo
And although x and o are far apart in the alphabet
And everybody knows that they are so different
But together side by side
They compliment and combine
To form a perfect balance
Between total opposites
In a grid with empty space
They complete
To make a cross between
What's round and straight
And what is just a circle
Waiting in the middle
Of a square
With an x in the corner
Playing a game of laissez faire
Even if I could
I wouldn't change
A thing
And I know that I shouldn't
Put meaning to every thing
But two letters arranged
To try to place
Themselves into three in a row
To them it's another game of tic tac toe
But to us, it's more like
Xoxo
Oh, the cat's games
Got me crossing my toes for more plays
And the close games and tie breaks
Are my tactic to go to next
Best arrangement of an O and X
Look, even if I could
I wouldn't change
A thing
And I know that I shouldn't
Put meaning to every thing
But two letters arranged
To try to place
Themselves into three in a row
To them it's just another game of tic tac toe
But to us, it's more like
Xoxo
'Cause, to us it's more like
