Asleep

I was asleep in the back seat
When I woke up in the middle of a bad dream
It was real, it was concrete
When my body hit the ground, it brought me to my knees

It was an accident, I know
Just a poorly timed blink
How fragile can we be?
"There's someone looking over us", you say
How else did we walk away?
I wonder the same

I got up when the smoke cleared
I looked into the sky, nothing up here
Where's my god? Where's my energy?
I want something to hold, something to believe

But please don't try save me in the street
There's a better time to preach
We don't need to agree
"There's someone looking over us", you say
How else did we walk away?
But I don't understand how you can be so certain

A moment later and we would've crashed head on
No one would survive
But isn't that just life?
You say, "There's someone looking over us, for sure"
It's a miracle at work
I wanna believe in something

I was asleep in the back seat
When I woke up in the middle of my 30s
Asking what is real, what is concrete
Except the solid ground under my feet
