You and Me Against the World

We could tie a knot out of dough and make a pretzel
We could even make more than one
We could sell them at a reasonable price
Oh, we could choose to feed the world
And we could see our smiles off the supermarket shelves
Or the world could go to hell
We could keep it to ourselves

We could draw some scratch marks onto some postcards
And we could decide just what they mean
We could write the most beautiful poems in our new language
And send them out to everybody
And we could publish a dictionary so everyone could understand
What our hash marks mean

Or we could let the dictionaries burn
And we could keep these words to ourselves
We could let the dictionaries burn
And we could keep these words to ourselves
To ourselves

We could spend a few more days in the lab
And we could splice a few more genes
We could research a cure for this terrible disease
That we accidentally unleashed
And when we found the cure we could make everybody well
Or the world could go to hell
We could keep it to ourselves
