Easter

Your birthday rolled around
Got you a gift
Wrapped it up, wrote your name on it
And threw it in the trash

What am I supposed to do
Can't get rid of you
I want to forget about Easter
Forget the late nights at the art office

The last time I heard you sing
Was on a Sunday morning
Slouching towards the ancient cross
Wearing your albatross

Do you still believe
In a second coming
I'll deny this epiphany
Sometimes it's better just not to see

I went to go check the mail
Expecting someone else
My heart sank
When I saw your name

Guess you finally
Forgot about me
I wish I could do the same

But once in a while
I'll still whisper your name
Crush it in a fist
And throw it out in the rain

And let it all wash away
