What Is Paradise

What is Paradise,who live there
Are they farmers,do they hoe
Do they know that this is "Amherst"
And that I am coming too

Do they wear new shoes in Eden
Is it always pleasant there
Won't they scold us when we're hungry
Or tell God how cross we are

Are you sure there's such a person as a father in the sky
So if I get lost there ever
Or do what the nurse calls die
I shant walk the jasper barefoot

It's our clumsiness that save us
Our skills are leading us to hell
Why raising fears as empires
For they never are a remedy

There is another sky, serene and fair
And there is another sunshine
Though it be darkness there, never mind, never mind
Silent field and faded forest

Here is a brighter garden
Where not a frost has been

The paradise we're trying to reach
Is only right in front of us
Heaven we're trying to seek
Is by now offering us trust
